Product Packaging Checklist for China Sourcing

Packaging is part of the product, the buyer experience, the quality conversation, and the handover route. This editable checklist helps buyers turn a general instruction such as “pack it well” into visible questions about product protection, presentation, labels, cartons, documents, handling, and the assumptions that must be confirmed for the actual order.

The direct answer: packaging should be specified as part of the product and handover decision—not added as an afterthought.

A packaging request can involve the product itself, individual protection, labels, inserts, cartons, packing marks, quantity per carton, handling considerations, and the information needed for the next service provider. A useful checklist states what is known, points out what remains open, and connects the packaging reference to sample review, quality checks, quotation scope, timing, and the expected handover route.

01 · PROTECT

Keep the product and components visible

Ask about the product’s physical form, fragility, surface, components, individual protection, grouping, and the packaging condition that needs to be maintained through the agreed route.

02 · PRESENT

Make labels and buyer-facing elements clear

State the required artwork, logo, barcode, label, insert, language, product information, placement, print or finish reference, and approval route.

03 · HANDOVER

Connect cartons and marks to the next step

Define outer-carton information, quantities, carton identifiers, packing marks, documents, and any handover questions that need to be confirmed with the parties responsible for the route.

CONNECT PACKAGING TO THE WHOLE BUYER DECISION

A practical route from packaging idea to handover question.

SPEC

Put packaging in the product reference

Use the specification workbook and brief worksheet to ensure packaging is not lost from the product description.

SAMPLE

Make the packaging reference reviewable

Use the golden-sample field note and sample guide to record the approved version and later changes.

QUALITY

Connect packaging to the control plan

Use quality planning, inspection timing, and final review guidance.

HANDOVER

Keep outer cartons visible to the route

Use lead-time planning, quotation comparison, and the handover map to surface scope and timing assumptions.

This checklist supports clearer packaging communication. It is not a product-safety, regulatory, labelling, customs, freight, or legal determination for any specific product or route. Confirm applicable requirements with the appropriate qualified professionals and providers.
